Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Allowance Rate Trends
In testimony before Congress on Nov. 19, 2013, SSA Deputy Commissioner Glenn Sklar revealed that fewer administrative law judges have high (defined as over 85 percent) allowance rates in fiscal year 2013, compared to fiscal year 2007.
During this period, the percentage of ALJs with an allowance rate over 85 percent dropped from 19.6 percent to 2.9 percent. Also of interest, less than 1 percent of all ALJs have an allowance rate under 20 percent.
