OIG Report Highlights Deteriorating SSA Field Office Data
Field offices across the country are seeing deteriorating public service, according to a Dec. 5 informational report from the Office of the Inspector General. The agency’s review, titled “Customer Waiting Times in the Social Security Administration’s Field Offices,” highlights the following data. Notably, the number of customers waiting more than one hour for assistance nearly doubled from 2.3 million to 4.5 million people between 2010 and 2015. In addition, the number of field office employees has dropped by 5 percent, or 1,447 workers, over the same time period.
